Novena Prayer for the Soul

(Sign of the Cross)
Novena Prayer

Most powerful and merciful Lord Jesus, Lover of souls, most admired by Your saints, listen to the sighs and pleas of the souls in Purgatory who desire Your Mercy and to the prayers of those who are making this novena for them, so that they may obtain Your mercy and be rescued from the prison of their great suffering.

We beseech You to relieve first those who are suffering there, our close relatives, the abandoned, and those who are about to be released from Purgatory. Above all, we beseech You to free the soul of (name of the deceased), and then free those who have injured us most and those who are in the bondage of mortal sin. Deliver them from their sins, bring them to a sincere repentance, and make them worthy of Heaven. Amen.

O God, You who are known to have mercy and to spare, we humbly beseech You, on behalf of your servant (name of the deceased) whom You have called out of the world, that you would not deliver (him/her) into the hands of the enemy nor forget (him/her) forever, but bid Your holy angels to lead (him/her) into Heaven, (his/her) true home. For as much as (he/she) puts (his/her) hope and trust in You, may (he/she) not endure the pains of hell, but come to the possession of Eternal Joy. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who lives and reigns in You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, world without end. Amen.

O Lord, we beseech You, be merciful to the soul of Your servant (name of the deceased) for whom we offer You this sacrifice of praise. We humbly and beg that by these holy and propitiatory offerings You may find (his/her) worthy of everlasting rest. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, world without end. Amen.

Grant, we beseech You, Almighty God, that the soul of your servant (name of the deceased) who has departed from this world, may be cleansed by this sacrifice; be delivered from (his/her) sins; and may (he/she) receive forgiveness and everlasting rest. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, world without end. Amen.

Absolve, O Lord, the soul of Your servant (name of the deceased) from every bond of sin so that by Your aid, (he/she) may deserve to escape the judgment of wrath, and come to enjoy Your Beatific Vision in Eternal Light. Amen.

Amen.
